BIG NEWS July 9, 2010

So, as I said in my last post, we welcomed a new addition to the farm today, our new donkey Charlie. We also got some more BIG NEWS!!

First, some background information; Brodie visited the chiropractor at about two months old. She literally cried ALL the time and was going through about two bottles of Mylicon drops a week. We were at our wits end and several people told me to take her to the chiropractor. (I will admit to thinking that they were all crazy). Finally, with no other options, I made an appointment with Dr. Matt O'Berry. Luckily, my friend, Crystal had prepared me for what would take place at the appointment before we went. Dr. Matt checked out her spine and her legs. Then he hung her upside down and swung her back and forth like a pendulum. He said everything looked good and there was no reason we needed to come back. That was on a Thursday. That was the last day we ever used Mylicon drops and the crying magically stopped. Needless to say, I'm now a believer!!

Fast forward two months or so, and we find ourselves at July 7th. My friend, Mary and I were discussing being pregnant and having babies and after she found out that I hadn't . . umm, resumed normal "monthly gift" activities, she suggested (with force) that I take a pregnancy test. I assured her at that point that I was NOT pregnant, as I was still nursing Brodie and "all the books said" I was fine. Still, she kept nagging and I broke down and bought ONE test at Dollar Tree.

Two days later, July 9th, we were celebrating Charlie's birth and I called Mary to tell her our good news. We got back on the subject of babies and she asked if I had taken that test or not. I hadn't. I think my exact words were, "let me run in there and take the test, Mary, to put your mind at ease!" So, I took the test, and laid it on the edge of the tub while we talked about haircolor and other nonsense. After a few minutes, I turned around and looked at the test, it had TWO BLUE LINES!!

I didn't speak for what seemed like an hour, my legs turned to jelly beneath me and I sat down in the floor, still staring at that little test. I finally managed to get out, "Mary, I'm gonna have to call you back." It was 10:30 pm. I couldn't call Joey because he didn't have cell service as he was on the way home from Fitzgerald. I ended up calling April (who laughed at me), Crystal (who recommended I go to Walmart and take another test while I was there), and Mary (who was relieved I hadn't died of a heart attack). All I could think was how I had a four month old baby girl sleeping in the nursery.

Joey got home later and as I had no idea how to break the news, I just laid the test on the coffee table. He came in, walked right past it, muttered "Hey Mama" and headed to the bathroom. He came out a minute later and spied the test. He pointed at it and said "Why do you have that?" I said, "I took it." He said, "Is it positive?????" I said, "Yes". He turned and walked into the kitchen without another word. After a few minutes, he came back to the doorway and just stared at me. Finally, he laughed. That made me laugh and so we sat there and giggled like two idiots for a minute, all the while realizing that our lives, once again, would never be the same.

He fixed himself a bowl of ice cream and I headed to Walmart. . . . . . BOTH TESTS WERE POSITIVE!!

So, we're having another baby!!

Charlie July 9, 2010

Today was a big day on the farm! One of our female donkeys had a bouncing baby boy. It was Brek's turn to name an animal and he chose the name Charlie. Our Uncle Charles (Charlie) passed away this past December, and I thought it was incredibly sweet that he would want to name the baby donkey after him. Our Aunt Sherry (Sheb/Mema) was very happy too, I think.

Charlie took to Bae right away (as most animals do). He was running around and jumping all over the place. He finally tired himself out so much that he came and sat down in my lap.

Finally, he had to check out Laci before settling in with his Mama.

It was a big day on the farm! The Allen Family got some more BIG NEWS TODAY, but we'll have to save that for another post. :)
